Dr. Paul Hill
Minister of Worship Arts
Dr. Paul Hill has been a church musician for almost 40 years and is a third generation Baptist minister. He is married to Janet and they have two delightful children, Zach and Rosemary (and a Dachschund named Lucy). Dr. Hill's studies in music education include a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA), a Bachelor of Music (BM), and his studies and experiences in church music along with his seminary degree, Master of Church Music (MCM), have helped shape how he defines himself as a “Church Music Educator” serving as a minister in the local church. As a result of his doctorate, Dr. Hill designed a curriculum primarily to assist other church musicians in teaching their choir members how to improve their music literacy skills called “The Basic Music Reading Skills Course.” He has been the Minister of Worship Arts at First Baptist Church, Marietta, Georgia, since 1999 having previously served churches in Florida, Alabama, and earlier in Georgia. Paul is also the Founding Conductor/Music Director of the community orchestra, “Marietta Pops Orchestra” (formerly “Symphony on the Square”). According to his wife he has way too many hobbies including fishing, cooking, target shooting, computing, handy-man carpentry, woodcarving, herb gardening, and many others. What he enjoys the most is making music and being with his family.
Harris M. Wheeler
Music Associate / Pianist
Harris M. Wheeler is a graduate of Shorter College in Rome, Ga with a degree in Music Education, emphasis on piano. Mr. Wheeler taught choral music in the Cobb County School System for 26 years and served for 4 years as the performing arts director at Mount Paran Christian School. He recently celebrated 25 years at Marietta First Baptist where he has been pianist/music associate. He has served as pianist, musical director for many productions in. Mr. Wheeler has sang in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus under the baton of Maestro Robert Shaw. For 10 years, he served as pianist/musical director for the cabaret theatre in Atlanta, Upstairs At Gene and Gabes, during which time he wrote the music to the musical-country-soap opera. Della's Diner, which planted in Atlanta for 2 years and opened at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York. He has been musical director for Six Flags Over Georgia for over 35 years. Mr. Wheeler has recorded 4 CDs: "Worship Beyond Words", "His the Season", "just Harris...Music for the Soul" and "just Harris...Music for the Heart". Sanctuary Pipe Organ

First Baptist Church Marietta is unique among many churches today by having a pipe organ in its sanctuary. Since its installation in 1962 and shortly after the completion of the sanctuary, First Baptist Church Marietta installed and continues to maintain a 46 rank, 3 manual Reuter Pipe Organ with 2443 pipes and 53 stops.
Our church is also blessed by having capable individuals who can support and accompany the hymn singing of our worship with this beautiful instrument as it serves alongside the other musicians in our First Orchestra and the Worship Choir as together they support the largest choir in our church: our congregation.
