Facilities Assistant Supervisor
Reports To: Facilities Engineer
Regular Work Schedule: Part time – Hourly 32 hours a week. Hours may vary due to nature of the position.
The church facilities assistant supervisor is responsible for ensuring the facility is safe, functional, and presentable. Key responsibilities include: custodial work, minor maintenance repair, event preparations, groundskeeping, maintaining inventory, and working closely with the church facilities engineer to meet the needs of the church.
Responsibilities
Custodial Care:
• Perform cleaning inspections of campus to identify areas of improvement.
• Report and review all cleaning deficiencies to supervisor. Review cleaning inspections with custodial staff and monitor areas of concern.
• Assure custodial staff have a proper understanding of cleaning chemical and equipment handling.
• Inspect and maintain cleaning equipment for safety. Report equipment issues that aren’t easily corrected to supervisor.
• Must have the ability to use the following hand tools/equipment required for successful completion of daily tasks: auto scrubbers, extractors, pressure washers, high speed buffers, low speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees, etc.
• Support Facilities staff with the following: Trash removal, detail dusting, restroom cleaning, sweeping, moping, and vacuuming floors. Restocking tissue, paper towels, and soap dispensers. Interior and exterior window cleaning. Wall cleaning, stairwell cleaning, etc...
• Oversee janitorial closets organization and restroom supply stock. Assure all cleaning supplies are organized, labeled, and maintain adequate inventory.
• Annually Strip VCT floors and reapply floor finish. Quarterly spot clean carpets and cloth chairs.
Event Support:
• Assist Facilities staff with set-ups and breakdowns for weekly reoccurring events. Support facilities staff with set-ups and breakdowns for weekend services and special events as needed.
General Maintenance:
• Assist facility engineer with maintenance and minor repairs in the following areas: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, Painting, wall repair, and other general maintenance needs. Assist with routine maintenance and safety inspection on all church vehicles.
• Help coordinate and schedule routine maintenance with vendors as needed
• Serve as lead in the absence of the facilities engineer
Groundskeeping:
• Performing tasks such as pressure washing, litter pick up, and general cleanup of church grounds. Assist facilities engineer with managing landscape vendors for routine mulching, flouring, lawn mowing, and leaf removal.
• Preform routine safety inspection and if possible, correct all safety hazards. If possible, replace all burned-out exterior lights and report all inoperative streets lights to supervisor.
Inventory & Supplies:
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, lighting supplies, and other consumables. All requests for purchases must be submitted to supervisor.
Safety & Security:
• Respond to all emergencies when necessary and notify supervisor immediately.
• Secure buildings where facilities are not in use, checking for unlocked doors and windows. Check facilities for unauthorized occupants and turn off lights.
• Assist facilities engineer with scheduling inspections for fire life safety systems. Assist with meeting and walking campus during inspection with vendor.
Key Skills, Education, & Qualifications
Physical Ability
• Work may involve exposure to elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and cleaning chemicals.
• Certain projects may require heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment may involve exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
• Some projects will require working off a ladder or vertical lift
Education & required skills
• High School Diploma
• Basic computer skills
• Organizational and time management skills
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to serve with excellence
• Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and ministry leaders.
• Ability to take direction, work independently, and as a team
• Good communication skills and a positive service-oriented attitude
Preferred skills
Skills that are desired for employment but not required:
• Basic carpentry
• Familiarization of HVAC system
• Basic electrical skills
• Basic plumbing skills
• Basic painting skills
• At least 3 years of similar experience working for a church
Flexibility: Facilities assistant must be able to adjust their schedule to accommodate the needs of the church. Every effort is made to maintain a consistent schedule, however the facilities assistant supervisor must be prepared to work as needed at any time. Especially during holidays and special events: (July 4th, Christmas eve, Easter, Etc.)
